Expanding a Lake Cabin for Family, Guests, & Greater Accessibility

Located near Isle, Minnesota, the Lonely Goose Retreat was transformed through a series of carefully planned additions that made the cabin larger, more comfortable, and more accessible. Harren Companies worked with the owners to improve both their family’s experience and the lake cabin’s appeal as a short-term rental.

The project expanded the original 2-bedroom, 1.5-bath cabin into a 3-bedroom, 2.25-bath retreat while creating more functional gathering spaces and improving accessibility throughout the home.

Project Overview

The improvements were completed in multiple phases, with each addition serving a specific purpose.

A new 14′ × 20′ primary suite added a spacious bedroom and a fully handicap-accessible three-quarter bathroom to this lake cabin. This addition not only created a more comfortable private retreat for the owners but also helped the property meet accessibility requirements for short-term rental licensing.

A separate 6′ × 16′ living room addition expanded the home’s primary gathering space, giving guests and family members more room to relax together after a day on the lake.

To complete the project, Harren Companies built a new 14′ × 14′ deck, creating an outdoor space that naturally extends the home’s living area and takes advantage of the surrounding property.
